The Injury Prevention Program is under the guidance of the Community Health Program and is funded by Indian Health Services. The purpose of this program is to provide community-based injury prevention education to Native American families. We distribute smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and car seats to tribal members and Native American families within our service area. We provide fire safety education, car seat education, and water safety education to the Head Start children, and help educate elderly clients about fall prevention. Bicycle safety education is provided to children, and a bike rodeo is held in our community. Home safety surveys are performed and the Injury Prevention Program serves as a referral service to other agencies for needed home repairs. The Injury Prevention Program periodically conducts seat belt surveys in our community and provides education on seat belt use.
