The Caddo Nation Education Department will provide grants and scholarships to enrolled Caddo Tribal Members to afford them the opportunity to attend college and further their education.
MOTOR FUEL EDUCATION ASSISTANCE GRANT
Program's Purpose:
Tribal funds allotted to the Caddo Nation Education Department from the Motor Fuel Tax shall be used to (1) encourage students to finish their schooling (2) and financially assist tribal members attending public schools, grades 7 - 12, including home-schooled students, as well as those attending post-secondaary institutions, such as colleges, universities and vocational-technology centers, with school-related expenses and fees not covered by existing services. Requests for reimbursement will not be accepted.
Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible for financial assistance from this source, the applicant must:
- be a member of the Caddo Nation;
- have an expressed and demonstrable academic need;
- submit a completed Program application;
- eligibility determination made by Caddo Nation Education staff.
Ineligibility/Ineligible Activities:
One of the two purposes of this program is to encourage completion of one's schooling and serve as an incentive for continued diligence. As such, certain activities will not be considered, such as: - services duplicated by Johnson O'Malley or other Indian Education Program;
- applicant cannot document need for assistance;
- purchase school or sports jackets, school pride clothing items, such as hats, shirts, coats, etc.
- reimbursement request for payment(s) already made by applicant;
- previous particpants failure to submit original receipts or provide receipts inconsistent with application;
Application Review Process:
Except for assistance offered college/university students, all other requests require submission of a Caddo Nation Motor Fuel applicaion. To be considered for tribal Motor Fuel assistance, college students must apply for Federal Student Financial Aid, which is a requirement for the Higher Education Program. College students must go through the Higher Education Application Review Process and show zero "0" unmet need according to their Financial Needs Analysis form.
Eligible Activities:
The following is a list of activities and/or expenditures that may be deemed allowable. Applicants should note that expenses already covered by existing assistance programs, scholarships, or other sources will not be considered. - Elementary & Middle-School Students - special services such as tutoring and other academic activities, such as FFA projects (purchase of show hogs, cattle & sheep), and related activities.
- Secondary Students - Special books, supplies, graduation announcements, cap & gown, senior pictures, fees for school-related functions (e.g., cheer camp, band camp, sports camp etc.), assist with class trips, award trips, etc., ACT Test & one re-take, GED Test & one re-take.
- Post Secondary Students - tuition, fees & books made applyable to institution, provided the student has gone through the Higher Education Application Review Process; vocational or special school-related supplies, special clothing, like medical scrubs, and equipment such as goggles, etc. provided the student is not eligible for assistance through the Adult Ed. or JP&T Programs.
Maximum Motor Fuel Education Assistance Level:
For Elementary and Secondary school applicants assistance from the Motor Fuel Tax account is limited to a maximum of $250 per academic year (August through July of the next year). Post-secondary students may be eligible for grants up to $1,000 per semester, not to exceed $2,000 per academic year. Assistance provided is directed to the service provider (school) or to the vendor (for special equipment and clothing).
Requirements:
Submit application for Caddo Nation Higher Education Grant and/or Motor Fuel application, and provide all necessary documentation.
All applications and required documentation must be originals. Faxes/Copies will not be accepted.
