The Hasinai Society
The Hasinai society is an organization that works to preserve
traditional Caddo culture and pass these traditions on to the younger
generations. The Hasinai society travels all over the state of Oklahoma to
participate in dances, and in the past several years danced with the
Delaware, Yuchi, Creek, Absentee Shawnee, Kiowa, Comanche, and Wichita
tribes. The Hasinai Society also performs exhibition dances here in
Oklahoma, as well as in Louisiana, Arkansas, and Texas. The leader of the

the end of June, the Hasinai Summer Youth Camp will be held. All students

Hasinai Society 2007 Some people never take a break, and the
members of the Hasinai Society are perfect examples of this. At a time
when the summer pow-wow season is winding down in Oklahoma, this group has
been busier than ever. After hosting a honor dance for their incoming
Princess for the year 2007-2009, the Society has maintained a full
schedule. The Hasinai Society traveled to the 49th Annual Caddo Conference
in Magnaolia, Arkansas at Southern Arkansas University on March 15 - 18,
2007. The Society enjoyed participating in the Caddo dances. Besides
participating in numerous dances they have also been invited to schools.
Cement Public Schools invited them to show case their dancing ability. Mr.
Sovo, Business Manager explained each dance they were going to do. The
children watched eargerly and were very excited to participated in some of
the dances.




“Hasinai Society Chooses New Princess”
The Hasinai Society is please to announce
Naomie Paddlety has been chosen as the new Hasinai Princess for 2007 - 2009.
The Little Miss Hasinai Society Princess for 2007 - 2009 is Shayna
Howery.
Shayna Fay Howery, Little Miss Hasinai Society is an enrolled member of the Caddo Nation, and is of Comanche and Choctaw decent. Shayna is the daughter of Bryan Kitchen and Shelby Howery, her Maternal grandparents are Shirley Wauqua-Howery-Gouge and Thomas Howery, Pateranl grandmother is Ann Kitchen. Etta Whitebead-Shemayme & Roscoe Shemayme, Ikey Reece Wauqua, David & Ruth Howery are her Maternal Great-Great-Grandparents.
Shayna is 6 years old and has been with the Hasinai Society since she was born. Shayna attends the Binger-Oney kindergarten class and enjoys dancing at pow wows.
One of the most important activities of the Hasinai Society is the
annual Hasinai Summer Youth Camp in June. This camp is
generally held the last full
week of June. During the week, children are instructed in Caddo songs and
dances, and arts and crafts, stomp dance, stick ball game, and traditional
cooking. The evening meal every night is prepared by the students in their
afternoon classes and may include dishes like meat and corn, habushko, fry
bread, and grape dumplings. The weekend following the camp is usually the
annual Murrow Dance. In its 90th year, this dance provides an opportunity
for the campers to show off what thery've learned.
